Molleindustria's McDonald's Game February 2, 2006 - by Ian Bogost
The game requires the player to learn and master all the complex techniques of a big international corporation like McDo. You'll bribe South American officials for the rights to clear rainforests for cattle and soy; you'll plump up cattle with additives; you'll coerce and influence government and scientific interests back home; and you'll manipulate your employees to achieve the highest profits. From the game:
Making money in a corporation like McDonald's is not simple at all. Behind every sandwich there is a complex process you must learn to manage: from the creation of pastures to the slaughter, from the restaurant management to the branding. You'll discover all the dirty secrets that made us one of the biggest company of the world.
Congratulations to Paolo for this fantastic game. In many ways, it's a much more complex game than Disaffected!, sporting the characteristic graphic and single-click play style that you can find in all the Molleindustria games. Speaking of which, isn't it time you play more of them? Comment from Gonzalo Frasca on February 2, 2006
Paolo, you were, are, and will be the greatest. When I grow up, I want to be like you. I bow to your genius. Long live Molleindustria! Comment from Darius Kazemi on February 2, 2006
Hey Ian, you should probably tag this entry as an Activism Game, since (1) it makes sense that way, and (2) you tagged "Disaffected!" as such. Comment from Cindy Poremba on February 2, 2006
So, this is like a real word now? Anti-advergame? Gah! And to think I sided with you on the space-free version of "videogame"... You're off the neologism committee! Comment from Ian Bogost on February 2, 2006
Darius: You're right! Fixed. Thx Cindy: I know, it's not the best word. And neologisms are dangerous. But, I'm just trying to get some levers out there for people to use to understand games for broader use. Do I have to give back my neologism committee badge? Comment from on February 22, 2006
